Can't kill Barbie

Barbie 1.0  (Photo by Barbieologin)

Barbie’s not technically dead, for she was never alive in the first place.  Nevertheless, she has now become a symbol for Dia de Muertos, Day of the Dead.

Mattel is now capitalizing upon a sacred Mexican tradition, during which families honor their departed ancestors.  This latest rendition of Barbie has her dolled up with skull-type face paint and an elegant gown.  All this mimics the calavera look that Mexican celebrants have traditionally embraced.

Barbie has already morphed into whatever the market will bear.  She’s had way more lives than your average cat, and is well on her way to notorious immortality.
