Smile for the Solo Swimmer

While swimming to raise money for South Africa’s Smile Foundation, Martin Hobbs braved deadly crocodiles and ceiling-high waves.

After swimming across Lake Malawi for 54 days straight, Hobbs “set the world record… for the longest solo swim in a lake.”  What enabled him to do so?  He figures it was 20 percent physical and 80 percent mental.

Focusing upon just one hour at a time kept Hobbs going.  Thinking about his next meal helped to alleviate the pain.  These are techniques that anyone can use while facing a particularly tough challenge.
