God is watching, but so are they

Back in 1990, Bette Midler had a major hit with the song “From a Distance.”  The lyrics included this repetitive line:  God is watching us.

That can be comforting for those following God’s commandments.  For those seeking anonymity in one-hour rooms, perhaps not so much.

These days, hidden cameras are tucked away in formerly private places.  You might assume that bathrooms and bedrooms are shielded from publicity, but not necessarily.  Some walls have eyes as well as ears.

USA TODAY recently reported on a hidden camera that was discovered within a family’s Airbnb rental.  The host waited until “irrefutable proof” was given before admitting to its presence within “a smoke alarm case.”  

This, unfortunately, is far from an isolated incident.  Spying on everyday folks is becoming more and more prevalent.  So while checking for bed bugs, check for technological ones too.
