Not always so Grand

Life is often a delicate balance (and sometimes quite literally) between freedom and security.  Sometimes this is called a risk/benefit ratio.

Although it is said that those who exchange freedom for security will wind up losing both, this saying should really include the words “too much.”  Risking too much freedom for security might not be worth it.  On the other hand, risking too much security might quickly end all bodily freedom.

Such was recently the case at the Grand Canyon.  Certainly, Mother Nature is at her grandest in settings like this.  Nevertheless, she is a force to be reckoned with.  It’s not nice to fool her, nor is it wise to walk her tightrope.

Selfies are terrific, but when chased to the edge of a towering cliff, they lose their allure.  When life is exchanged for a digital facsimile, the loss far outweighs any benefit.
