Reading a blog every day might help to deter the development of dementia.  Writing a post every day, better yet.

Research results that were published in JAMA Psychiatry indicate that “daily intellectual activities” could significantly help to maintain cognitive ability.  Such activities also include “board games or card games.”

Some experts have questioned whether “reverse causation” might be at play here.  In other words:  Is dementia the cause or result of a lack of intellectual activity?

Nevertheless, previous studies have supported the theory that “engaging in mentally challenging activities – even later in life” can indeed be cognitively beneficial.

Revenge is Tweet

Ouch!  (Photo by EricaValle)
Sure Roseanne Barr made a mistake, and in her case a billion-dollar one.

Tweeted responses to this mistake, however, seem way more vengeful than forgiving.  Some are gloating that she will now get what’s coming to her.  Others predict that her life is virtually over.  Some even hint that her loss is now their potential gain.

This Twitter frenzy seems no kinder than Barr’s own tweet.  So we wonder:  Is there such a thing as the benefit of the doubt?  How about second chances?  Has anyone tried to imagine walking a mile in her unpolished shoes?

Racism is certainly alive and well in America, but not just in Roseanne Barr.  If we were to examine our own flaws as closely as we are now examining hers, we too might be tweeting apologies.

That is, if we’re not too busy tweeting barbs.

A Teddy Bear Too

Some nine-year-olds might feel helpless if their baby brother were in the hospital with a rare neurological disease.

Not Andrew Emery.  He decided to do something about it.

“Something” was a lemonade stand which garnered a whopping $5,860 in two hours.  Add that to the $5,600 from a GoFund me site, plus the $1300 raised at a benefit concert, and little Dylan’s been greatly blessed.

And what will these funds cover?  Andrew readily answered:  I’m gonna spend it on doctor’s bills and stuff and buy him a teddy bear too.
