After 66 years of promoting African stereotypes, Disney felt it was time for an update.
Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise will therefore banish Trader Sam and his shrunken heads from the attraction. Spear-wielders will also be removed, along with their ominous piles of skulls.
Chimpanzees will make heads turn instead. They'll be depicted on board a wrecked boat, whooping it up in true tourist fashion. Perhaps this will last for another half century, or at least until actual chimps set the record straight.
