Negligent Hiking

There’s no question about it: Leaving your 80-year-old family member to fend for himself in the wilderness is a huge no-no.

Unfortunately, that's exactly what one family unwittingly did while hiking in Sargent’s Purchase, New Hampshire.  Without thinking things through, members took a side trip up a mountain trail and left their elder behind.

This definitely broke “hiker protocol” - not once, but twice.  The first breach was leaving their loved one alone, and the second was not getting “back to check on him.”

Fortunately, this particular incident ended well.  Nevertheless, Fish and Game Major Dave Walsh is thinking of “possible criminal charges.”  At the very least, his officials will be looking at “billing of the search and rescue.”
