It’s not so often that orthodox religion agrees with cutting-edge science, but this is what’s happening now.

Stephen Hawking was apt to warn against the dangers of centralized technology.  Smart phones are already capable of tracking people’s whereabouts and personal tastes.  Information of this kind could potentially intensify government control over individual lives.

Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church is now calling such “control from one point” a possible “foreshadowing of the coming of Antichrist.”  In this case, Antichrist denotes “the person… that controls the entire human race.”
