Blanketing South Texas

The Bed   (Painting by Toulouse-Lautrec)
While some parts of the United States are getting blanketed with snow, South Texas is getting blanketed with love.

It all started with a letter to Santa that a little girl wrote.  When Crystal Pacheco’s first-grade teacher asked students to write their requests, hers was for a ball, food and a blanket.

The ball was for her brother’s sake, but the food and blanket were for survival’s sake.  There are many impoverished families in South Texas, some of whom live in unheated trailers.

When Crystal’s teacher posted her request on Facebook, the response was immediate.  By the next day, warmth abounded.  The school is now “hoping to receive 726 blankets that will be handed out to needy students and their families.”  More than 600 blankets have already arrived.
