Seeing Differently

Norwich Nave   (Photo by Diliff)
Seeing the same 900-year-old thing from   a different perspective can be very enlightening.

England’s Norwich Cathedral is offering visitors this opportunity.  A 50-foot “helter-skelter” ride has been temporarily set up in its nave, ostensibly for people to get up-close and personal with the “medieval roof bosses” and nearby stained-glass window.

Church officials insist that this is not just a gimmick, even though it seems to follow suit with the mini golf course in Rochester Cathedral.  CNN reports that “churches across the UK struggle to stem a decline in attendance.”

Nevertheless, unusual juxtapositions can jolt us from automatic pilot to an in-the-moment appreciation of God’s Creation and all of its wonders.
