'Rock of Ages' (Photo by Rodw) |
Just recently, Randa Ragland was handed
a rock “painted green with black
hearts” on it, featuring the word
“strength.” This rock had comforted
a six-year-old girl who
later succumbed to cancer. Her
father is the one who gave Randa
this precious stone.
Randa’s
own three-year-old is battling
the same kind of cancer.
She
herself has health issues, and her
husband just lost his job. Not knowing
all this, or perhaps not caring,
a neighbor left an anonymous note
in the Ragland family’s mailbox.
This
note complained about the condition of
Randa’s house, stating the following: “Your
eyesore is affecting the resale value of
OUR homes. Do better!” After Randa posted
this note on Facebook, urging folks to
“try being kind to your neighbor,” things took
a miraculous turn for the better.
Nearby
residents mobilized in order to help the
Raglands. Some contributed money - others
time, energy and talent. Pretty soon the
house became a hopeful home once again. And
Randa has her rock to hold on to.
