Hawking's last piece of pi

(Public Domain)
Stephen Hawking had a keen sense of humor, and perhaps his final joke was to leave this planet on Pi Day.

Hawking died on the morning of March 14th  (aka 3-14, the first three digits of the mathematical constant pi).  Is it any
accident that one of history’s greatest mathematicians bowed out on this date?

Pi Day also happens to be Albert Einstein’s birthday. Princeton, New Jersey (where Einstein lived for over 20 years) hosts a number of celebratory events each year.  These include pie-eating and Einstein look-alike contests.
