If you have no boat, or if you have a boat with no steering mechanism, then your sleep might be restless. Researchers have found that “having a purpose in life results in fewer nighttime disturbances and improved sleep quality.”
Associate Professor of Neurology Jason Ong states that cultivating a meaningful life “could be an effective drug-free strategy… particularly for [an elderly] population that is facing more insomnia.”
But how can one cultivate purpose within a somewhat limited lifestyle? Ong suggests “mindfulness therapies,” which assist people to find beauty and sustenance in even the most routine activities.
