Michelle Obama: The deepest cuts

First Lady Michelle Obama  (Public Domain)
It’s tough enough to be First Lady, but even tougher when you’re the first First Lady who’s black.

When asked about this challenge during a recent Women’s Foundation meeting in Denver, Obama replied:  The shards [from a proverbial broken-glass ceiling] that cut me the deepest were the ones that intended to cut.  These included body-shaming and racist slurs.

Obama is beyond pretending that such attacks don’t hurt.  She stands in solidarity with all women, whom she describes as “bleeding every single day” from “small tiny cuts,” yet “still getting up.”

Nevertheless, Obama hasn't lost her faith in Americans.  She hails them as “universally good and kind and honest and decent.”
