Recently, off the Gulf Coast of Florida, a group of nine was drowning. Caught in a sudden riptide, they were going under fast.
Police were around, but chose to remain safely on shore. Not
so a hardy group of beachgoers. They
bravely formed a human chain that extended well into the ocean.
One rescuer described it this way: To see people from different
races and genders come into action to
help TOTAL strangers is absolutely amazing
to see… 50 plus
people!
The victims were also quite heroic. One drowning grandmother told a rescuer: Let me go, just let me die
and save yourself! A drowning Chinese couple urged another rescuer to “save the kids first.”
By the end of the saga, a total of 70 had joined the human chain.
They managed to save all lives in question by risking their own. Chivalry
itself is not dead, not even close.
