Only God Can Decide

Bambino Gesu Hospital  (by Marten253)
Doctors sometimes forget that they don’t actually control life and death.  Those who assign a timetable to such are fooling themselves.

Tragically, they are also fooling others.  When patients are given a “time left” pronouncement, self-fulfilling prophecies often result.  When patients instead have faith in the open-ended possibilities of healing, miracles can occur.

There is currently a battle between “Alfie’s Army” and the British medical system.  Alfie Evans, almost two years old, suffers from “a degenerative neurological condition” that doctors are calling “semi-vegetative.”  (Do they mean to imply that he has more in common with a carrot than an angel?)

Doctors are saying that “further treatment is futile” and have withdrawn Alfie from life support.  Nevertheless, they are stopping him from transferring to “the Vatican’s children’s hospital,” where he might receive effective treatment.

Alfie’s parents want their son transferred to the Vatican right away.  Pope Francis himself has intervened, saying:  Only God can decide who dies.
