This
recently occurred between the two galaxies
within NGC 6052. This pair has
been together for a long, long time. They’ve
flirted with the idea of two becoming
one, but never quite made it
legal. Nevertheless, Hubble has caught
them in the act of merging.
To
their credit, this has been a very peaceful
alliance. Colliding galaxies have
been known to “smash together
violently,
causing the death of one of the
pair.”
