A
female Asian elephant, Flavia was “living
alone in a zoo” for all that time. Whereas elephants can live to be 70 in their
natural environment, she only made it
to age 47.
PACMA,
an “animal rights group,” had been
lobbying for Flavia to be transferred to
a sanctuary. She had been showing signs of
depression and deterioration for months before
her death.
PACMA’s
president, Silvia Barquero, stated: We hope that no animal will go
through this again.
