Kesha 'Praying' with Friends

Long before there was a “Me Too” movement, there was a Kesha.  At this year’s Grammys, she received support she’s been needing right along.

Janelle Monae introduced the singer/songwriter with words of this ilk:  We say time’s up for pay inequality, discrimination, or harassment of any kind, and the abuse of power.  Then Kesha - along with “sisters” Cyndi Lauper, Julia Michaels, Andra Day, Camila Cabello and Bebe Rexha – belted out a heartfelt ‘Prayer.’

Kesha co-wrote this song, along with Ben Abraham and Ryan Lewis.  The lyrics reflect a “love thy enemy” approach to forgiveness.  Although her oppressor had “brought the flames and put [her] through hell,” she nevertheless hopes that he’s somewhere praying, falling on his knees, and finding the peace that passeth understanding.

A powerful reminder within today’s political climate that vengeance is not the only option.  Forgiveness not only helps the oppressor, but also the oppressed.  Kesha recently wrote: When I [co-]wrote praying…  I just felt as if I had gotten a huge weight off of my shoulders.
