Fly on the Wall

Because people still harbor the illusion of privacy, they do all sorts of things when they think no one’s looking.

But people in so-called menial jobs often are.  Their lower social status can render them invisible to employers and customers.  This gives them a “fly on the wall” view of human nature, and it ain’t always pretty.

Within a recent Reader’s Digest article, drive-through workers reveal "the Craziest Things They’ve Seen at Work.”  These things include drivers who chug beer, ride tandem with a fake skeleton, display blood-covered hands, hawk a pet, order food for their dolls, claim to be Jesus, cry uncontrollably, pretend to be a unicorn, and transport a baby elephant.

It’s not just about standing there and following orders.  No job ever is.
