Drive-thru sequoia: What were they thinking?

Perhaps if humans hadn’t carved out the innards of a so-called “beloved” sequoia, it would still be going strong.

Instead, a car-sized tunnel was carved through the base of its trunk during the 1880s.  That it remained standing all these subsequent years is miraculous.  That it finally succumbed is only to be expected.

Those who wallowed in the tree’s gaping wound are those who are acting most dismayed.  One such “fan" had this to say:  It was majestic.  Now it’s basically a pile of rubble.

So much for ongoing appreciation.  Wondering how majestic any folks might look with the bottom pulled out from under them...
