She began singing
gospel at New Bethel Baptist
Church in Detroit, where Bishop Franklin then
pastored. Aretha’s very first church solo
was the hymn, “Jesus, Be a Fence Around
Me.” Her first album was “Songs of
Faith,” which included the Martin Luther King,
Jr. favorite, “Precious Lord, Take My
Hand.”
Currently
"gravely ill," Aretha is reportedly battling for
life. Her family is requesting “prayers and
privacy” for the ailing star.
