Solomon rode
a donkey on the day he became king
of Israel, and Jesus fulfilled Zechariah’s
prophecy of peace by riding a donkey
into Jerusalem.
A farm in
Ulster Park, New York is now carrying on
this peaceful tradition. Steve Stiert’s
Donkey Park encourages visitors to interact
with these “intelligent and affectionate”
animals in order to “experience their
calming presence.”
Stiert
particularly caters to stressed-out individuals in
difficult situations. He has brought
donkeys to “nursing homes and events for
children with disabilities.” His services
are “free,” and he mostly uses his “own
savings” for funding.
