Sophia: Wisdom rules

(Photo by Jose Luiz Bernardes Ribeiro)
“Sophia,” Greek for “wisdom,” is now the name of a robot with Saudi Arabian citizenship.

Never mind that this Sophia has more rights than many Saudi Arabian humans.  Although certainly a cause for uproar, there is an even greater issue at stake.

As Glenn Beck recently pointed out, human IQs top out in the 200s.  Robots, however, will soon be programmed with IQs in the 1000s.  Who then shall rule?  Are we creating monsters?  Worse yet, are we creating false gods?

Intelligence does not necessarily include ethics.  And if it does, whom will these ethics support?  Ethical robots might be far more concerned with robot rights than with human ones.

Will humans then be the ones to do menial chores for robots? Will humans then be slaves to machines?  And at what point is a machine a living organism?

We may find this out the hard way, but the Greeks knew long ago that wisdom rules.
