Did Muslims discover America?

Guests from Overseas   (Painting by Nicholas Roerich)
On the heels of Columbus Day weekend comes a new discovery:  Arabic characters [that were] woven into burial costumes from Viking boat graves.

Using social-media logic, does this mean that Muslims discovered America?  After all, Vikings came to the shores of North America long ago, and maybe some of them worshipped Allah.

The recent discovery of these woven characters was made by Annika Larsson of Uppsala University, Sweden.  While examining remnants of 9th and 10th century shrouds, she noticed patterns of “ancient Arabic Kufic script.”  Larsson then found recurring mention of “Ali” (“the fourth caliph of Islam”) and Allah.

Pevious DNA tomb analysis had indicated that some Vikings “originated from places like Persia, where Islam was very dominant.”  Larsson’s team intends to “establish the geographic origins of the bodies” wrapped in these Kufic-scripted garments.
