Yet truth is sometimes fishier than fiction. Biologist Jason Fischer (no pun intended) recently caught a “240-pound lake sturgeon” from the waters of the Detroit River. It is estimated to be about a century old.
This hardy female had somehow managed to survive the “over-harvesting” and “habitat loss” that had occurred there during the past 100 years. After being measured, weighed, photographed and tagged by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, the lucky lady was let loose to continue celebrating life.
