Such proclamations did not endear him to his listeners. This
Twitter comment sums up many of the reactions:
Can Kanye West just make music and
nothing else?? I like his songs but I don’t
like him.
On the other hand, had West put forth a more “politically correct” message (for this particular group), wouldn’t some detractors have cheered him on instead? As he pointed out: …I did a song and y’all sang it at the top of your lungs. That doesn’t mean that you’re a Trump
supporter. That just means that you’re okay with a celebrity
having their own opinion… That might not be your opinion but you can still like that person or still like that person’s
music.
But what about Trump's allegedly-racist overtones? West shook it up on that score too, saying: We are in a racist
country. Period… Not one or the other candidate is going to
instantly change that.
Maybe not instantly, but some might at least be moving in the right direction…
