During a recent interview aboard a flight from Armenia to Rome, Pope Francis was asked about his relationship with former Pope Benedict.
When reporters suggested that Benedict was “still exercising influence inside the Vatican,” Francis asserted that this isn’t the case. He then clearly
stated, “There is only one pope.”
Francis added that Pope Benedict was said to have sent some Church officials “packing” after they complained that Francis was “too liberal.” He praised Benedict for protecting him “with his prayers.”
