Idols: What they worship

Celebrities are in a position to directly experience the destructive aspects of idol worship.  After being targeted by such idolatry, they themselves often seek meaningful spiritual connections.

Some have chosen Hinduism as their path.  In 2010, Julia Roberts reported that she was a devotee of Neem Karoli Baba.  Comedian Russell Brand attends Hari Krishna gatherings.

Some convert to Judaism.  This was the case with Marilyn Monroe when she wed Arthur Miller.  Monroe had not only been impressed with Miller’s achievements, but also with those of Albert Einstein.  She was particularly fond of Judaism’s emphasis on “ethical and prophetic ideals and its concept of close family life.”

Others adhere to Buddhism's precepts.  Since 2004, Orlando Bloom has been affiliated with “the teachings of a Japanese Buddhist priest from the 13th century.”  Richard Gere has long been a practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism.

Still others consider themselves "spiritual,” but not necessarily religious.  Andrew Keegan, for example, founded a “non-denominational spiritual community” in 2014.
