Hip, Hippo, Hooray

Animal rights recently scored a major victory within the United States when the Southern District Court of Ohio recognized “hippos as legal persons.”

This isn’t to say that animals are people, but it does affirm the overall “right to be free from cruelty and exploitation.”  This particular case focused upon a choice for these hippos to be sterilized rather than killed.  It will hopefully set a precedent for providing justice and mercy to those who cannot advocate for themselves.
