Great Ball of Fire

Hearing this expression can remind someone of Jerry Lee Lewis or our very own sun.

Nevertheless, Earth might fit this description in another 600 years.  Stephen Hawking warns that our planet could become a “ball of fire” if we keep overpopulating it with voracious humans.

Therefore, we need to "get out of Dodge" before this all happens.  Perhaps Alpha Centauri holds the key to humanity’s future survival.  This “closest star system” can possibly be reached by a “Breakthrough Starshot” probe that Hawking and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg are currently backing.

If all goes well, such a probe could reach Mars within a year, and Alpha Centauri within 20.  Readers of this article may even live to see those stellar days.
