Hibbard Mummy: Ahead to the Past

These days, we call landlines and tube TVs “old tech.” Because “technology” is formally defined as “the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area,” mummification would then qualify as ancient tech.

Nothing says “new tech” quite like a particle accelerator.  Although not generally used for medical research, one recently revealed some hidden aspects of a first-century Egyptian mummy.

This Hibbard mummy contains the remains of a young girl who had “lived in an agricultural community west of the Nile.”   A “rich assortment of objects” were buried along with her, not the least of which was an “embedded portrait.”  Researchers have been particularly interested in the artistry of this "realistic-looking face painted onto a wood panel."

Good but not Perfect

Genesis 1:1-26   (Photo by Classicalsteve)
In Genesis 1, God repeatedly saw that Creation was good.  Not once, however, does God give it an A+ for perfection.

Snow is therefore allowed to fall in the paradise we call Hawaii.  It’s still only November, yet Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa are expected to be hit with eight inches of the white stuff.

This is not even so unusual.  Last year, these two volcanic summits received “up to two feet of snow in early December.”

Which just goes to show:  There is no paradise here on Earth.  Creation was never meant to be as perfect as its Creator.

Just one thing from Santa

(Public Domain)
For too many of us, the Christmas season means hustle and bustle.  But one little girl has it figured out already.

When finally given a turn to sit on Santa’s lap, the tired-out tot had one thing in mind.  Tantalizing toys were not even on the radar.  Nor was cold hard cash.

When jolly Saint Nick asked what she most wanted, her reply was simple:  A nap!

If only we all were so clear.  Peace on Earth – whether physical, emotional or societal –  tops it all.
