A Mummy at the British Museum (Photo by Klafubra) |
Nothing says
“new tech” quite like a particle accelerator. Although not generally
used for medical research, one recently revealed some hidden
aspects of a first-century Egyptian
mummy.
This Hibbard mummy contains
the remains of a young
girl who had “lived in an agricultural
community west of the Nile.” A “rich assortment of objects” were buried along with
her, not the least of which was an
“embedded portrait.” Researchers have been particularly interested in the artistry of this "realistic-looking face painted onto a wood panel."
