Whether or not Gwyneth Paltrow’s “Goop” website is making false health claims for commercial gain remains to be seen. An
investigative non-profit, Truth in Advertising, is currently looking into this.
Truth in Advertising (TINA) claims that “Goop is violating the law” by marketing deceptively.
Goop promotes vaginal jade eggs that allegedly help with hormonal balance, as well as body stickers that supposedly aid healing.
According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), “solid proof” is needed before such marketing claims can be made. This would entail “quality peer-reviewed trials done in humans.”
Goop has called TINA’s claims “unsubstantiated and unfounded. Nevertheless, Goop has since been tweaking its item descriptions.
