Empower Mint because Lives Matter

Although Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream recently endorsed Black Lives Matter with their new flavor Empower Mint, they also clearly stated that Blue Lives Matter too.

In the company’s own words:  We respect and value the commitment to our communities that those in law enforcement make, and we respect the value of every one of their lives.

So why this emphasis on Empower Mint?  As Martin Luther King, Jr. pointed out, silence is not always golden.  To remain mum in the face of injustice is to be somewhat complicit.  Since racial injustice is still very much alive and kicking, this is Ben and Jerry’s way of speaking truth to power.

This unique company has a commendable history of speaking out against injustice.  In 2015, a    flavor called I Dough, I Dough was released in support of same-sex legalizations.  Ben and Jerry’s has also provided “full health care benefits to same-sex partners of its employees.”
