Doomsday at Bay

'Doomsday' Ice Shelf   (NASA photo)
William Butler Yeats wrote a poem called “The Second Coming” in which he asked, “And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches toward Bethlehem to be born?”

Turn out that the “rough beast” might be an Antarctic glacier that is dangerously slouching toward coastal regions.  Aptly named “Doomsday,” this cold invader threatens to drown millions.

An international team is attempting to determine just how dangerous this situation is.  But the ice itself is thwarting their efforts to keep Doomsday at bay.
