What They Fought For

It is generally agreed upon that veterans of the United States military fought for freedom, which includes freedom of speech and certainly freedom from slavery.

This makes it all the more disgraceful that a veteran was blocked from publicly speaking about “freed slaves” during a recent “Memorial Day event in Ohio.”  When Army Lt. Col. Barnard Kemter explained that Memorial Day could be traced to a ceremony held by former slaves in 1865, his microphone was deliberately cut off.

An investigation regarding such censorship has since been launched by the Ohio American Legion, which indicated that disciplinary action might follow.
