What if Red Shoes were garish?

Sometimes Hollywood hype can be way overdone, especially if it reflects prejudice.

The latest example comes with the marketing of Red Shoes And The Seven Dwarfs, the promo for which asks, “What if Snow White were no longer beautiful and the 7 Dwarfs not so short?”  This, in and of itself, could be an intriguing question, yet it is coupled with the image of a heavyset Snow White.

The implication is that slim and/or tall is far better than heavy and/or short, and that neither of these two latter body types can be beautiful.  When the promotional poster was unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival, it therefore garnered a heartfelt backlash.

Plus-size model Tess Holliday tweeted: How did this get approved by an entire marketing team?a Why is it okay to tell young kids being fat = ugly?
