Runaway chimp: Clinging to hope

A chimpanzee recently escaped from a Japanese zoo, then hightailed it atop power lines.  It took a tranquilizing dart for him to relinquish his grip on newfound freedom.

Zoos might be fun for humans, but this video speaks volumes about how imprisoned primates must feel.

Even when the sedative began taking effect, the ape refused to let go.  With his last bits of strength and volition, this chimp seemed willing to risk it all for a chance at a better life.
