Airport blues? Get a plane

Up, Up and Away!   (Photo by Dtom)
Are you fed up with airport etiquette?  Those long lines?  That TSA humiliation?

Oprah’s got the perfect solution: Get a plane.  This is a tad above “catch a plane” because once you catch it, you don’t have to let it go.

Oprah traces the inspiration for this "Aha!" idea to a moment of airport rudeness.  Can you imagine?  She was just sitting there, minding her own beeswax, when a fellow traveler accused her of not being authentic.

There’s just so much abuse that a billionaire can take before springing into action.  Oprah’s no slouch.  She ran right out and bought herself a plane.

Wouldn’t you?  I mean, if it didn’t pollute the atmosphere so very much…

Context Counts

Take pretty much anything out of context, and it can sound twisted.

The Declaration of Independence, when read in its entirety, is an ethical-sounding document.
However, one of its passages does resemble hate speech by today’s standards.

As part of a diatribe against King George III, this passage states:  He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes, and conditions.

Facebook, in its infinite wisdom, initially blocked a 12-part posting of this famous Declaration, explaining that one section “goes against our standards on hate speech.”

The year before, some Twitter readers were “outraged” upon reading NPR-posted excerpts from the Declaration.  They assumed that these isolated quotes contained current terrorist propaganda.

Obama's Big Three

Because marriage is a huge commitment, it’s important to choose a spouse carefully.

Barack Obama advises that potential mates ask themselves these three questions:  Do you find him or her interesting?  Do you enjoy his or her sense of humor?  Do you think that she or he would be a good parent?

Obama knows whereof he speaks because he and Michelle have been successfully married for more than 25 years.  Their challenges have been great, and their staying power equally so.

On their 2017 anniversary, Barack sent his wife this message:  The idea that you would put up with me for a quarter of a century is a remarkable testament to what a saintly, wonderful, patient person you are.
