Oceans Away

What lurks within? (Photo by Justin Cowart)

There are oceans away, and then there are oceans far away.  Very far away.

Ceres, a dwarf planet that’s located between Mars and Jupiter, seems to harbor a wellspring of saltwater beneath its rocky surface.  If so, then Ceres is the latest known suspect within “the realm of ocean worlds.”

Ceres is an icy world, much colder than two others within that oceanic realm: “Saturn’s moon Enceladus and Jupiter’s moon Europa.”
