Micro or Macro?

Giant Oarfish     (Public Domain)
When oarfish begin to surface, people begin to panic.

These denizens of the deep generally live between 650 to 3,200 feet below the ocean's surface.  When seen on shore or within nets, they might be cause for concern.

Japanese legend has it that “oarfish appear around big quakes.”  During the year before the Fukushima tragedy, “at least a dozen… had washed up onto Japan’s coastline.”  Perhaps they can sense micro changes in the earth's crust.

Seven have already been sighted this season.  Is this cause for alarm?  Hopefully not.
