Cheerios is doing this in order to help save bees from extinction.
These hard-working insects play a crucial role within our own food chain.
According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), bees are now endangered for the following reasons:
“habitat loss, intensive farming, pesticides and global warming.” Wildflowers,
a rich source of nutrients for bees, will help to offset these harsh liabilities.
Cheerios will set the example by planting “wildflower gardens on their oat farms.” The company plans “to produce “about 3,300 acres of wildflowers” by the year 2020.
Those wishing to partake in this overall initiative can request free seeds via the Cheerios website.
