Oops, Wrong Number

Hello down there!   (NASA photo)
Here on Earth, wrong numbers are fairly common.  Some are intentional, most aren’t.

Believe it or not, wrong numbers can also occur from the International Space Station. Why just the other day, astronaut Andre Kuipers dialed 911 by mistake.  NASA sprang into action, checking to make sure that everything was okay.

Turns out that Kuipers simply hit 9 instead of 0.  This became 911, rather than 011 (“the code for the U.S.”).  Could happen to anyone, especially to someone who is literally spaced out.

Family First

Spears in 2013  (Photo by Glenn Francis)
Many celebrities would jump at the chance for a Vegas residency, Britney Spears included.

Scheduled to open at Park MGM in early February, Spears had to suddenly cancel these shows indefinitely.  As she explained in heartfelt messages to fans, her father has been seriously ill for weeks.

Spears feels the need to be right there with him during this critical time.  She stated, “It’s important to always put your family first.”  This is especially commendable, given the golden opportunity that she is putting aside.  MGM Resorts has been
quite supportive of her decision.

Leap of Faith

The Drowned   (1867 Painting by Vasily Perov)
Sometimes you have to dive right into whatever life presents.

Nevertheless, when 11-year-old Advaik Nandikotkur was presented with a drowning adult, he had his doubts.  Nandikotkur only weighed 80 pounds, and the victim was under eight feet of water.

There was no time to weigh pros and cons; there was only time for a leap of faith.  At that point, the boy dove down, “grabbed the man’s wrist and pulled him to the surface.”

A life was saved, and a hero was born.  A humble one, at that.  When Nandikotkur’s story was broadcast “all over the local news,” he shunned the fanfare.  “What matters, he said, is that the man is alive.”
