Achy Breaky Heart: Can prayer help?

(Corazon.svg: Fibonacci)
In the song heard round the world – the one that helped propel Billy Ray Cyrus from the Flatwoods of Kentucky to the international stage -  Cyrus begs his former flame:  But don’t tell my heart, my achy breaky heart, He might blow up and kill this man…

Years later, in a classic case of life imitating art, Cyrus found himself trapped in these lyrics for real.  He and his wife, Leticia “Tish” Cyrus, had split apart.  When announcing the split in October 2010, the couple stated:  As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family…  We appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

During a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Cyrus made it clear that he did not just rely upon other people’s prayers.  He did a whole lot of praying of his own – and believes that these prayers, along with improved communications, were instrumental in healing his marital rift.  In March 2011, Cyrus announced on The View that the divorce proceedings had been dropped.

In October 1991, ABC News reported on a Duke University Medical Center study that showed how prayer can help the heart to heal.  The “lead author”of this study, cardiologist Mitch Krucoff, had said that “it’s hard to explain exactly how prayer helps the heart.”  In 1999, William Harris of the Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City conducted a comparable study with similar encouraging results.  Harris then said this:  The simplest answer is that there’s a God in the world and he listens to prayers.

This God seems to not only listen - but to also specialize in keeping achy, breaky hearts from blowing people and relationships apart.
