Lailat al Bara'a: Why not every day?

(Prayer in Cairo, 1865 painting)
Although some like to point out that Lailat al Bara’a isn’t specified within the Qur’an, that certainly doesn’t mean that the Lailat al Bara’a hadith traditions are not worth practicing.

This special day, also known as Mid-Sha’ban (the 15th day of the eighth month of Shaban), is strongly associated with prayer, deliverance, mercy, blessings, honoring of ancestors, and forgiveness.  If these were emphasized every single day of the year, they certainly wouldn’t hurt.  In fact, a routine incorporation of these Lailat al Bara’a attributes could improve life immeasureably.

Zikr.co.uk details some Lailat al Bara'a practices.  It lists Salah as “the most preferable act to be performed in this night,” and particularly emphasizes Salaatul Tasbeeth.  Wikipedia defines Salah as “ a ritual prayer” which has “prescribed conditions, a prescribed procedure, and prescribed times.”  According to theislamicworkplace.com, the recitation that is repeated within the recommended Salaatul Tasbeeth
(Salat ul-Tasbih) prayer is as follows:   Subhanallah, al-hamdulillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wa Allahu Akbar
(Glory be to Allah, All praise is due to Allah, There is no God except Allah, Allah is the greatest).

Zikr.co.uk also associates Tilawa (recitation of the Qur’an), Dhikr (recitation of the name of Allah), and Dua (prayers and supplications) with Lailat al Bara’a.  Quaranicteachings.co.uk states that Tilawa (Tilawat)
can include either literally (physically walking behind) or figuratively (adhering to the principles of) following
the Qur’an.  Sunnah.org states that Dhikr “is the most excellent act of Allah’s servants and is stressed over a
hundred times in the Holy Qur’an.”    Duas.org presents a collection of duas for a multitude of occasions.
