Smart about College

When it comes to choosing a college, smart students often don’t act the part.

Financial expert Dave Ramsey warns that it’s somewhat “oxymoronic” to make “stupid” educational choices. He cites the case of a young caller who was yearning to attend “Ole Miss” because “the campus is pretty.” It will cost a pretty penny to enjoy that scenery!

During a Debt-Free Degree event, Ramsey and author Anthony ONeal gave the following “money-saving” advice to college-bound students: begin at a quality community college, minimize board costs by living at home, attend “a public, in-state university” and avidly pursue scholarships.

Gigantic Heroics

When a baby elephant slipped over the edge of a huge Thai waterfall, herd members sprang into action.

Six of them plunged to their death while trying to save the baby and one another. Then five more followed suit. Another two managed to survive, and were found “floundering on a rock.”

This is not only an heroic loss, but also a tragic one. Once the “ubiquitous” symbol of Thailand, the elephant population has dramatically declined through “destruction of its natural habitat.”

Ancient Israel's 'NYC'

If you dig deep enough in just the right places, you’re bound to find something of value.

The Israel Antiquities Authority recently uncovered the remains of a bronze-age “New York City.” En Esur, in northern Israel, had 6,000 residents in its heyday, approximately 5,000 years ago.

Archaeologists have discovered this city's “intricate plan,” which included food-storage silos and water-storage basins. En Esur’s streets were paved with “plaster and stones.”
