Two for One

(Public Domain)
“And the two became one” is a line most often associated with one human marrying another.  Whether they then become one is  debatable, but the intention seems real at the time.

Long before that, each of their brains may have undergone a similar intention.  Recent research indicates that what’s long been deemed to be one organ is actually two that have joined forces.

These two brain-related organs consist of the hindbrain (which “regulates vital bodily functions such as breathing and heartbeat”) and the midbrain/forebrain (which “is more associated with higher-level thinking”).  They have now been found to consist of “separate nervous systems,” each of which developed from “a totally different progenitor cell.”

And to think - it only took about “500 million years”  (a drop in the evolutionary bucket) for this anatomical marriage to occur!
