Skin in the Game

Many spiritual traditions warn against the illusory thinking that equates body with soul.  Nevertheless, many of us tend to believe that without the body we would completely cease to exist.

Losing even one precious limb can therefore be quite traumatic.  Take the recent case of a woman who’s been facing the amputation of her lower leg.  She couldn’t bear the thought of losing this body part entirely, and so came up with a plan.

There’s an internet platform named Sewport “which pairs designers with manufacturing partners in order to bring their ideas to life.”  The woman therefore requested that the skin from her amputated leg be incorporated into a handbag design. 

She submitted a rough sketch of how the finished product should look, along with the following explanation: “It’s my leg, and I can’t bear the thought of it being left to rot somewhere.  It’s part of me and I want to keep it.”
