After posting a "God Bless America" sign for 14-plus years, a Kansas post office was ordered to remove it.
This occurred after a
lawsuit had been filed by the Freedom from Religion Foundation.
Posting the message on federal property was said to have violated the First Amendment.
The residents of Pittsburg, Kansas were not about to take this sitting down. One company, Jake’s Fireworks, “printed 1,200 ‘God Bless America’ yard signs and 300 banners.” Within 45 minutes, local citizens had claimed them all.
Kansas Senator Jerry Moran had this to say: It is outrageous that
some would aim to divide a community over a
banner that has been proudly displayed since Sept.
11, 2001. I commend the Pittsburg community
for rejecting this decision and I stand with them.
