Ozzy: The wizard of odd

A generic modern Ouija board
Say what you want, but no one does “odd” quite like Ozzy Osbourne.  He not only aces “odd” in this world, but also in worlds beyond.

For example, the latest in his ever-unfolding series of oddities is the Ozzy Osbourne OUIJA board.  This collector’s edition of the famed link to the dearly-departed is available only to patrons of guess-who’s concerts.  It is being billed as an “exclusive item” that is part of Ozzy’s 2010-11 V.I.P Tour Packages.

Speculation about this widely-proclaimed “Prince of Darkness” has long centered upon Osbourne’s
religious beliefs.  Because so many of his themes involve Satan and the occult, many have assumed that he’s a Satanist.  Others have pointed out that, although lyrics such as those of the song Black Sabbath focus upon Satanic events, this focus is within the context of “Help me, God…  Puh-leeese!”

This song - written by the original Black Sabbath band members - was allegedly inspired by a paranormal event that bassist Geezer Butler had experienced.  After reading a book about witchcraft that Osbourne had given him, Butler fell asleep.  He awoke to see a dark apparition looming over his bed.  Butler then reached for Osbourne’s book, only to find it was missing.

Although Osbourne has seemed fascinated by the occult, many say that he’s been a Christian right along.  Osbourne is known to refer to God fairly often in positive terms.  Some have even gone so far as to call Black Sabbath the very first Christian rock band because of its intense preoccupation with traditional
good-versus-evil themes.
